Aspect #31
ESSENCE BOOK #1
“Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself than of other people, nor does it mean having a low opinion of your own gifts. It means freedom from thinking about yourself at all.”
~ William Temple
ESSENCE: Learning humility is often a humbling process.
Humility is a modest view of one’s own importance— a sense of humbleness often acquired through tremendous struggle. Humility comes from having an open heart. It involves being down-to-earth, not prideful or arrogant, while remaining open to, and learning from, one’s own limitations, mistakes, and (so-called) failures.
Humility often enables a grounded state and a humble Self-awareness to coincide with success in life, and involves an eXpanded sense of Self and respect for others. Humility involves the avoidance of self-promotion, while not exaggerating one’s own abilities and/or achievements.
Sleeping Souls have a tendency to adopt arrogance when they are successful in life, as their egos are in their minds, which means their hearts are closed. Too often, Sleeping Souls have a difficult time admitting mistakes, as their self-righteous attitudes convince them why they are right. Their tendency is to compare themselves to others through a lens of prestige, power, money, and control. For many Sleeping Souls, success breeds arrogance and self-righteousness from living in their ego mind. Some begin to seek.
Seekers have a tendency to adopt humility when they are successful in life, as their hearts are opening wider and wider. They tend to learn that they must become humble, dropping their cynical ways. They realize that the wonder of life is alive in those who replace their fear with faith. Seekers generally learn to take responsibility for their mistakes without making excuses and/or blaming others. They learn that humility involves treating others with respect, regardless of their title, position, or status. Seekers tend to value other people’s
perspectives and contributions. And with many Seekers, success breeds confidence.
Awakened tend to be humble, living their lives with an open heart. For many, they haven’t always been this way. Rather, they’ve acquired wisdom through enduring extremely difficult times. As a result, they come out of those times a different person. Through wisdom, they have learned gratitude. Through gratitude, they have learned humbleness. And through humbleness, they have learned simplicity….
I am humble and kind.
Are you humble? In what ways? Describe.
When others describe you, is being humble
a part of that description?
Are you getting more or less humble as you age?
